“Besides being present when fires are burning, we must continue listening afterward to the people who live in the area and remain close to them, showing empathy and proximity,” Alegría said. She argues that by doing so, “solutions can be found.”
Comparing the situation with the current management of the Government of Aragón, the opposition leader recalled the 2022 Ateca fire: “The president of Aragón himself, Javier Lambán, took part, listened and personally addressed the needs of the municipalities.”
Joining Pilar Alegría were the mayor of Ejea de los Caballeros, Teresa Ladrero; the president of the Cinco Villas district, Santos Navarro; the mayor of Asín, Rogelio Garcés; the mayor of Biota, Ezequiel Marco; the mayor of Orés, Paco Auría; the mayor of Remolinos, Alfredo Zaldívar; and the mayor of Uncastillo, Teresa Pueyo, along with other councilors.
ARAGÓN 2027 PLAN
Alegría urged officials to seek solutions urgently and work on prevention. To that end, the PSOE is preparing the Aragón 2027 Plan, a document that must emerge “from agreement, consensus, and the proposals and ideas of those who live in and know the area,” according to the party’s secretary general, who encouraged other political forces and the Government of Aragón to contribute.
The Socialist politician pointed to the increasingly intense summers caused by climate change. Faced with this reality, she said that “we cannot turn our backs on scientific reality” and recalled that “a climate-change-denying party such as Vox” is part of Jorge Azcón’s government.
