Wednesday's Copa del Rey fixtures suspended after rail accident in Toledo

After beginning last Tuesday, the Copa del Rey's first round has been halted. As a sign of respect and solidarity, the Royal Spanish Football Federation has decided to suspend the 24 matches scheduled for this Wednesday in the competition following the tragic rail accident that occurred early in the province of Toledo and left several dozen people dead.

A horrific and tragic event that is deeply affecting the entire country has led to the closure of the railway lines connecting Madrid and Andalusia, making it impossible for teams and their supporters to travel. The RFEF will therefore announce the tournament's new schedule and the definitive dates for the postponed matches in the coming days.

"The great Spanish football family remains united in grief over this tragedy and is making itself available to the authorities to help the victims of this devastating accident," the RFEF said in its statement announcing the suspension of the round scheduled to take place on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

HUESCA AND UTEBO AFFECTED

The list of matches included games involving two Aragonese teams: Huesca and Utebo. Huesca were due to visit Peña Sport in Tafalla at 7 p.m., while Utebo were set to host Sabadell at the same time at Santa Ana. Neither match has yet been assigned a new date, meaning the two teams will not play the Copa del Rey's first-round tie this Wednesday.
