C.D. Teruel dismisses coach Kiko Ramírez in bid to change course

C.D. Teruel's severe situation in Primera RFEF has led the club to dismiss coach Kiko Ramírez. The red-and-black side announced the decision at a press conference on Tuesday attended by Ramírez and club president Santiago Gonzalvo.

"We have decided to terminate our coach's contract. I want to thank him for these months with us, which have been wonderful for me on a personal level. However, from a sporting perspective, we believe we need to change the course Teruel is taking," said the club's president, who thanked the Catalan coach for his "work, commitment and dedication" since he arrived in the Teruel capital last summer.

The decision comes with Teruel bottom of Group 2 in Primera RFEF and three points from safety after collecting just six of the 27 points available so far this season. Following their latest 1-1 draw against Águilas, the Teruel side, the lowest-scoring team in the division with four goals in nine matches, have dropped to the bottom of the table after a record of five defeats, three draws and just one win.

KIKO RAMÍREZ'S WORDS

"I am disappointed professionally, but happy because I believe I have given everything I have and devoted all my time to C.D. Teruel. I have met wonderful people and discovered a wonderful region. I know very well that these things sometimes happen in football, and coaches have to be prepared for them," said Kiko Ramírez, who wished the Teruel club "all the best."

The Catalan coach also said that, despite Teruel's difficult situation at the bottom of the standings in the third tier of Spanish football, the squad has the resources to overcome it: "I trust these players, and I know that in the end they will fight because that is in their DNA."
