The Aragonese side leads Group A outright with four wins from four games. Lithuanian team Kibirkstis follows with two wins and two losses, while Basket Landes and Athinaikos share the bottom positions with 1-3 records. Mathematical qualification for the next round is already secured, but Casademont still has two games remaining to close out this first phase and try to preserve an unbeaten record that would allow it to enter the next stage of the competition in an excellent position.
Before taking on the new challenge of the second round, the Aragonese team will visit Lithuanian side Kibirkstis and host Athinaikos at the Príncipe Felipe. The two games will help determine the final Group A standings and could further increase the European haul of an Aragonese team enjoying an outstanding start. The objective, therefore, will be to maintain this positive momentum and carry as many wins as possible into the next round.
THE ROAD TO THE FINAL SIX
In the second phase, the three best teams from Groups A and B will come together on one side, while the top three teams from Groups C and D will join on the other. Casademont will therefore face the teams that qualify from the group in which Familia Schio and Crvena zvezda currently share the top positions with three wins and one loss. Galatasaray, after its victory in Italy, is third with a 2-2 record, while Belgium’s Basket Mechelen brings up the rear without a win.
The current perfect record not only confirms the excellent form of the red-and-blacks, but could also become a decisive advantage on their path to the Final Six. In that second round, the six teams will play six more games, one at home and one away against each of their new opponents. The key is that the results from the first phase will carry over, meaning the wins Casademont is accumulating now could make the difference in a second phase where the top two teams in each group will earn direct access to the Final Six, which will once again be held at Zaragoza’s Príncipe Felipe.
