Carlos Cantero on Mariona and Vorackova's future replacements at Casademont Zaragoza: "The club is looking at the market"

Although December 31 is still some way off, the date is marked in red on Casademont Zaragoza's calendar. It will be the day Mariona Ortiz and Veronika Vorackova officially leave the club to join the emerging Project B competition. Their departures represent two significant and fundamental losses, forcing the Aragonese club to reinvent itself. As Carlos Cantero has indicated, that process is already underway: "I know the club is looking at the market and considering options."

Even so, the arduous and painstaking task of replacing two of the most important pieces in the red-and-black squad will take time, as the club seeks players capable of taking on the many responsibilities handled by the captain and the Czech forward. "I have no news and, for now, there is nothing," the red-and-black coach revealed.

Despite the delicate situation caused by losing two key players, Cantero has conveyed calm and confidence in the team's day-to-day work: "December 31 still seems a long way off to me, and I am focused on making sure the team continues along its path and remains focused. While we are the group we are, we have to try to get as many wins as possible, and then we will see how things change, because they certainly will."

"When that day comes, we will try to find a way to continue with the same momentum we have had up to now, but I see the team focused on the present and the short term, which I believe is where we need to look and take those games one at a time," Cantero added, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the run that has kept Casademont unbeaten in both the league and the EuroLeague.

POSSIBLE FURTHER DEPARTURES

Given what has happened so far, and considering that more players are still needed to complete the list of those who will begin the Project B competition at the start of next year, no team in European basketball is safe from further departures to a new tournament that, as in Casademont's case, is causing serious headaches for more than one team that will lose key players midway through the current season.

"I don't have any news either, and I think that was also clear with Mariona and Vorackova, because I am not receiving any such updates. My job is to coach the team, keep it focused and, for now, we joke about it a little, but our vision is so short-term, focused on the next game, that I don't hear about whether there are rumors of more departures," Cantero said, stressing that he sees all the members of his squad as "very committed."
