That was how he began taking his first steps at some venues in Valencia, and he kept making people laugh until he reached one of the rooms where he is most excited to perform: the new Sala Belushi (formerly El refugio del Crápula). He will perform at the Zaragoza venue on September 18 from 8:00 p.m. with his show "Nightrain". "I started in 2020 and I already knew what this venue was. I had it on my radar, and it was one of the first places I called to arrange the tour," says the comedian.
Although Zaragoza audiences are well known for being demanding, Portet is not afraid, as the "show has gone especially well" in other cities. The stand-up routine promises to make audiences laugh and travel from family life to childhood, all with "quite a lack of mental stability". "The show is shaped by an ADHD diagnosis I received as a child, when I was six. That is what gives both the personality of the show and its pace a distinctive quality, as well as the different ways of performing it, the rhythm... A lot of people identify with it," the comedian explains.
For example, audiences will be able to delve into Pablo Portet’s relationship with his grandmother, "an incredibly colorful character," he says with a laugh, while also enjoying observational humor about everyday things such as a newsstand or asking for directions in a village. "The show ends with something a little more raw, in which we address hospitals, family ties and having someone to care for," he adds.
As for the art of making people laugh, the young comedian says it is "very easy". "All it takes is a stumble, a fall or flatulence at the worst possible moment for someone to burst out laughing. That said, the difficult part is getting onstage and facing an audience for an hour, making them laugh at a story and at what you are telling them," he explains. Tickets for the show can still be purchased on the Sala Belushi website for 10 euros. "I encourage everyone to come and enjoy an hour in which the only important thing will be having fun," he concludes.
