Medieval jousts, historical reenactments, street parades, concerts and a wide range of entertainment for all audiences will feature at Jaca’s Medieval Market. From September 25 to 27, the town in Huesca province will return to the Middle Ages, completely transforming Plaza de Biscós, Plaza de Ripa, Plaza de la Catedral, Plaza de San Pedro and the glacis of the Citadel.
A MARKET CENTERED ON THE BIRTH OF ARAGON
Coinciding with the traditional St. Michael’s summer, Jaca’s historic center will host a new edition of this medieval market over the three days as part of the "Jaca, Kingdom and Legend" festival, dedicated to the birth of the Kingdom of Aragon, its leading figures and life in the Middle Ages. The third edition of the festival will focus on one of the most significant moments in local history: Jaca’s selection as capital during the reign of Sancho Ramírez.
At least 90 stalls selling all kinds of products, along with street performances by theater artists and minstrels, will form the medieval market’s main attractions. The medieval combat tournament and the pyrotechnic parade will return. The latter will take place on September 26 at 11 p.m. and lead into a pyromusical show, which can be viewed at midnight from the Citadel’s glacis.
Large-scale street parades, roaming characters, storytelling sessions, themed exhibitions, demonstration workshops and a children’s area with rides will complete a program designed to delight visitors, alongside theatrical historical reenactments, medieval jousts, historical performances, concerts, lectures and fire shows.
A WELL-ESTABLISHED PROJECT
Over the three days, the city will bring together commerce, reenactments and cultural activities centered on a key episode from its past, with a program designed for diverse audiences and Jaca’s heritage playing a leading role. Over the years, the event has established a format that combines historical education, street entertainment, heritage and a medieval market at several points across the city center.
