The exhibition "A Lap?" arrives at the exhibition hall of Casa de los Morlanes, inviting the public to enter the universe of popular fairgrounds through their lights, rides, fairground workers and everyday scenes. From a child deciding which bumper car he will use to beat his friends to a long line to buy the ever-coveted cotton candy, including a fairground worker waiting at her ticket booth for young people to choose their next attraction, all painted on a canvas that was once blank.
"Who hasn't been to a fair at some point? In this exhibition, I wanted to change my painting somewhat and delve into the world of the night, with its neon lights, vibrations and reflections. When I entered the universe of fairgrounds, I began to see similarities between fairground workers and artists, as well as the difficult lives they lead because they have to move constantly from one place to another. I also wanted that to be represented," painter Rocío Guerrero explained. "A Lap?" thus presents a journey in which the fun and carefree spirit of the fair coexist with a view of those who live there and have made itinerancy their way of life.
NEON LIGHTS AS THE FOCUS OF THE EXHIBITION
The treatment of artificial light is one of the exhibition's most compelling features. Guerrero perfectly recreates the glow of neon lights and fairground rides on canvas using a technique based on the artisanal grinding of pigments, giving the works a distinctive physical and luminous presence. Plastic bottles, the remnants of a day of festivities and the bustle of bumper cars thus take on the character of contemporary still life.
The exhibition includes works in different formats, from large compositions in which the crowd and nighttime atmosphere take center stage to paintings focused on small stalls, rides or individual scenes. They include titles such as "Juegos El 95," "El Triunfo de Dionisia," "saturno devorando un bocata," "Taquilla Gusano Loco" and several works from the "AutosLocos" series.
The exhibition will be complemented by guided tours coinciding with the Fiestas del Pilar: a family tour on Tuesday, October 13, at 11:00 a.m., and tours for the general public on Thursday, October 15, at 6:00 p.m., and Saturday, October 17, at 11:00 a.m.
