The artist has thus returned to his hometown to lead one of the most eagerly awaited moments of its festivities. The opening speech takes place this Sunday, September 13, at 1 p.m. in Plaza de España, where Bona has officially opened celebrations that will continue until Wednesday, September 16.
His appointment also comes with additional recognition. Magallón Town Council will present Juanjo Bona with the town’s Gold Medal, in recognition of his career and the profile he has given to his hometown both within and beyond Aragón.
JUANJO BONA, FESTIVAL SPEAKER IN MAGALLÓN
Juanjo Bona’s speech is one of the central events of La Víspera, the day on which Magallón begins its festivities in honor of the Holy Christ Carrying the Cross. Following his address, the traditional presentation of cachirulos to children born in 2025 took place, along with a parade of floats through the town’s streets.
From there, residents will enjoy four days of celebrations featuring music, community meals, children’s activities, peñas and bull-related events. The program also includes the traditional bonfire, fireworks and this Sunday’s spark bull, as well as the MasterChef Magallón contest, the peñas’ Grand Prix and various musical performances.
For Bona, the appointment means returning to the town where he grew up and where his connection with music and jota began. It is also not the first time the artist has served as the speaker at an Aragonese celebration: in March this year, he delivered the opening speech for Holy Week in Bajo Aragón, in Híjar.
FROM MAGALLÓN TO 'OPERACIÓN TRIUNFO'
Juanjo Bona was born in Magallón in 2003 and began training in singing, music theory and jota at an early age, while also studying clarinet at the town’s music school. His television breakthrough came with the first edition of 'Jotalent', an Aragón TV competition that he won in 2022.
In 2023, he made the leap to national television with 'Operación Triunfo'. The singer entered the academy after making it through Gala 0 and reached the grand final, where he finished in fourth place. His time on the show made him one of the young figures associated with Aragonese music and culture with the greatest potential.
After 'OT', Bona continued his musical career with 'Recardelino', his debut album, released in 2025, which combines pop with jota and other elements of Aragonese folklore. His connection to his homeland also led him to serve, alongside Naiara Moreno, as a speaker at Zaragoza’s 2024 Fiestas del Pilar.
Now, two years after becoming one of the Aragonese faces of 'Operación Triunfo', Juanjo Bona is once again standing before his neighbors, this time to open the festivities in his own hometown.
