The participating short films were available for viewing and voting on the festival’s official website, where the public could take part in selecting the two awards corresponding to both categories.
JANDRO WILL SELECT THE BEST SHORT FILM MADE IN PRISONS
Alejandro López García, known professionally as Jandro, is a magician, comedian, actor, presenter, screenwriter, writer and film director. His extensive career in television and on stage, and more recently in filmmaking, makes him one of the leading figures at the festival’s inaugural edition.
Jandro will receive the "Honorary Stonebreaker" award, a distinction that Daroca Prison has presented since 2005 to individuals who, through their presence, commitment or contributions, symbolically help to "open a hole of freedom and hope in the walls of our prisons."
The artist thus succeeds actress Eulalia Ramón, who received the distinction in 2025, and joins a long list of figures honored with the award.
The main new feature of this edition is that Jandro himself will be responsible for selecting the Best Short Film Made in Prisons award. Nine films from eight prisons in Spain and Argentina are competing in this category, reinforcing the festival’s international dimension and its commitment to audiovisual creation as a tool for expression and social integration.
The deadline for viewing and voting on the fiction and prison-made short films ended on September 30.
A CAREER DEFINED BY MAGIC, HUMOR AND TELEVISION
Jandro is Spain’s Comedy Magic champion and has become one of the leading figures in a specialty that combines illusion, creativity and a highly personal sense of humor. His style is characterized by an unconventional approach to magic, in which surprise and comedy play a fundamental role.
His international accolades include appearing on the prestigious U.S. program "Penn & Teller: Fool Us," where he has won the show’s trophy six times, an exceptional record within the television format.
His artistic work also extends to the stage, where he has performed magic and comedy shows throughout Spain. He is currently touring with «Descabellado», a production that brings together some of the most characteristic features of his style. Information is available on his official website, Jandro.tv.
After earning a degree in Telecommunications Engineering, he began his career as a television writer in 2005 on the program Buenafuente, where he worked until 2006. That same year, he contributed to the radio show No somos nadie on M80 Radio alongside Pablo Motos.
His career is particularly linked to "El Hormiguero," where he has worked as a contributor, writer and director since the program’s early days, first on Cuatro and later on Antena 3. His best-known segments include "Magic," "Hidden Cameras with Children," "Impossible Challenges," "Interactive Games" and "Playing the Piano with His Feet."
In 2012, he made a brief appearance as an actor in Dónde están las chicas. A year later, in 2013, he hosted the Antena 3 program Camera Kids. His hidden-camera segments with children have achieved significant international reach, with millions of views and broadcasts in different countries.
In 2016, he co-hosted the television program 1, 2, 3... Hipnotízame with Manel Fuentes, further expanding his career as a communicator and entertainment professional.
ESTABLISHING HIMSELF AS A SHORT-FILM DIRECTOR
Beyond his television popularity, Jandro has developed a notable career as a screenwriter and film director in recent years, with several short films achieving a strong presence at national and international festivals.
"Cava" (2024). His cinematic debut, starring Pablo Puyol and Carlos Santos, explores the fantasy and psychological horror genres. The film has accumulated more than 110 festival selections in 36 countries and more than 20 national and international awards.
His honors include the Jury Prize for Best International Short Film at the Cali Horror Film Festival, as well as awards for cinematography and sound at competitions such as Fesohcurt. It has also received nominations, taken part in qualifying festivals and been shortlisted for the Forqué Awards.
"El revisor" (2025). In this film, Jandro combines elements of film noir with comedy. Starring Pablo Puyol and Mamen García, the short has surpassed 90 festival selections and received more than 20 awards at Spanish and international competitions.
"Influenzer" (2026). This is his most recent film project, featuring a cast that includes Laura Galán, Marina Larrodera and Raquel Martos.
This experience as an audiovisual creator adds special value to his participation in La Oca Loca & Prison Film Fest, where he will be responsible for assessing films created within the prison system and selecting the winning entry in this category.
DAROCA’S FILM WORKSHOP BRINGS AN AWARD-WINNING SCREENPLAY TO THE SCREEN
The festival maintains close ties with the cultural and educational activities of Daroca Prison, where film is viewed as a tool for creativity, participation and social integration.
In this context, around a dozen inmates recently took part in a film workshop led by Aragonese actress María José Moreno, focused on preparing and staging the screenplay "The Day the Microwave Spoke," written by Mabel M. from Las Palmas II Prison.
The script received the «Picapedreros» Universidad San Jorge Award for Best Screenplay 2026, an honor that has enabled the project to continue through its audiovisual adaptation.
After several days of rehearsals, the participants completed the process by filming the short, directed by Aragonese filmmaker Rubén Pérez Barrena, who recently presented his feature film «Caminando con el diablo».
The initiative highlights the role of film as a space for learning, collective work and the development of artistic skills within the prison environment. It also allows inmates to take an active part in the different stages of an audiovisual production, from acting and rehearsals to filming.
NEARLY 60 INMATES SELECT THE BEST FICTION SHORT FILM
Inmates’ participation also plays a central role in selecting the festival’s awards. During a session held on October 19 at Daroca Prison, attended by a large audience, the five finalist short films for the Best Fiction Short Film Award presented by the prison’s inmates were screened.
Nearly 60 participants attended the event and cast their votes, which have already determined the result of the award.
In this way, La Oca Loca & Prison Film Fest 2026 continues to develop a program that combines recognition for audiovisual professionals, the promotion of short films and the active participation of people deprived of their liberty.
