The event will have a strong commemorative character, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Venezuela’s National System of Youth and Children’s Orchestras and Choirs, an international benchmark founded in 1975 that has made musical training a tool for inclusion and social transformation for thousands of young people.
Gustavo Dudamel has maintained a close relationship with El Sistema, having conducted various ensembles formed under the program on numerous occasions throughout his career. Dudamel’s selection for this event highlights the bond between the conductor and the Venezuelan institution.
The program will include a performance of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 7, “Leningrad,” one of the most emblematic works in the 20th-century symphonic repertoire. Composed during World War II, the piece has become a symbol of resistance and hope, reinforcing the special nature of this concert and its artistic and commemorative significance within the city’s cultural program.
