That was announced by director Alejandro Amenábar during an event held at the headquarters of the Spanish Film Academy, alongside the institution’s president, Fernando Méndez-Leite, and notary Eva Fernández Medina. "La bola negra" will compete for Hollywood’s most famous statuette after beating "Los domingos" by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa and "El ser querido" by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, with a screenplay by Aragonese writer Isabel Peña.
The film is based on an unfinished work by Federico García Lorca and tells a story connecting the lives of three men in three different eras. Sexuality, desire, pain, identity and what one generation inherits from another run through a narrative in which Los Javis once again address some of the themes that have defined works such as "Veneno" and "La Mesías".
AN ADOPTIVE ARAGONESE AS THE LEAD
The film marks the big-screen debut of artist Guitarricadelafuente, who has Aragonese roots, in a leading role. The singer, who was born in Benicasim (Castellón), has a strong connection to the region. Both of his parents were born, raised and met in Zaragoza, while his grandmother lives in Las Cuevas del Cañart (Teruel). Guitarricadelafuente always takes the opportunity to highlight his Aragonese origins. On September 5, at the start of his performance at Vive Latino, he said emotionally that "it is a source of pride to feel Aragonese."
The impressive cast is rounded out by Miguel Bernardeu, Carlos González, Milo Quifes, Lola Dueñas, Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close.
