Domingo Buesa Conde, an Aragonese art historian and writer, has died in Zaragoza at the age of 73. He was a prominent figure in Aragonese culture. He curated numerous exhibitions and served as director general of Culture and Heritage for the Government of Aragon between 1996 and 1999.
This same Wednesday, Buesa was due to attend the presentation as the author of the book “250 Years of the Future: The Legacy That Made Aragon Great,” for which he was also the exhibition curator. Ibercaja Foundation president Amador Franco had excused himself from the press conference for “health reasons.”
He was a trustee of the Ibercaja Foundation and belonged to important institutions, including Ibercaja’s Cultural Board of Trustees. He was president of the Culture Commission of the Royal Aragonese Economic Society of Friends of the Country of Zaragoza, a member of the Institute of Altoaragonese Studies and president of the Royal Academy of Nobles and Fine Arts of San Luis.
He was an expert on the history of Aragon, with numerous publications such as The King of Aragon (Zaragoza, 2000) and Teruel in the Middle Ages (Zaragoza, 1980). Part of his career was devoted to the origins of the Kingdom of Aragon, researching the figure of Sancho Ramírez
Buesa also pursued a career in politics. Under Santiago Lanzuela, he served as director general of Culture and Heritage for the Government of Aragon (1996-1999). He was the People’s Party candidate for mayor of Zaragoza in the municipal elections held on May 27, 2007.
Born in Sabiñánigo in 1952, he was named an adopted son of Jaca by the city council in 2014. Zaragoza City Council appointed him Official Chronicler of the City of Zaragoza for the 2008 International Expo.
