Against the backdrop of this now-closed exhibition, the institution presented the book "250 Years of the Future: The Legacy That Made Aragon Great" this Wednesday. The publication, produced with the support of Fundación Ibercaja, offers the perspectives of more than 50 authors on Aragon and also includes the content of the commemorative exhibition held at La Lonja to mark the 250th anniversary of the Royal Aragonese Economic Society of Friends of the Country, which remained at the Zaragoza venue until last June.
"This book invites us to discover the contribution made by the Royal Aragonese Economic Society of Friends of the Country to Aragon’s development and to understand why, two and a half centuries after its foundation, many of the ideas and values that inspired its creation remain relevant," said Fundación Ibercaja chairman Amado Franco.
THE ENLIGHTENMENT SPIRIT BEHIND ITS FOUNDATION
Thus, the book offers a journey through the history of the Economic Society, from its foundation in the 18th century to the present day. It also provides an opportunity to discover this legacy and learn how the Enlightenment spirit that inspired its founders, including Ramón de Pignatelli, took shape in projects that shaped Aragon’s development and continue to inspire its future.
Also attending the event were the president of the Cortes of Aragon, María Navarro; Fundación Ibercaja director general José Luis Rodrigo; and the director of the Royal Aragonese Economic Society of Friends of the Country, Honorio Romero, who expressed his pride that the institution’s origins are directly rooted in a brilliant age for knowledge, with Newton and Descartes as leading figures.
The publication of "250 Years of the Future: The Legacy That Made Aragon Great" is presented as an opportunity to rediscover the impact of the Enlightenment on our land and understand how the ideas that drove that project continue to reach toward the future.
