During the early hours of Friday, Salvamento Marítimo and the Guardia Civil rescued 18 people of North African origin who were found south of Formentera. This latest operation brings the number of migrants located on the island between Wednesday and early Friday to 173.
ARRIVALS CONTINUE IN FORMENTERA
Operations have continued in recent days both in waters near Formentera and on land, after several vessels reached different points along the coast.
Personnel from the Guardia Civil and Salvamento Marítimo are taking part in the operations, locating and rescuing the vessels and providing assistance to their occupants.
Activity in waters near Formentera is also reflected in official alerts issued by Salvamento Marítimo. On Thursday, the agency reported a six-meter-long blue vessel drifting south of the island, although the alert did not specify the number of occupants or identify it as a migrant boat.
The latest arrivals are keeping surveillance and assistance operations active in response to vessels reaching the Balearic coast.
