The Porc d’Or Awards have arrived in Galicia for the first time, with the region having one of the strongest representations in the competition in recent editions. Galicia hosted the event after leading the 2025 rankings, when it received 16 awards. The gathering brought together farmers, technicians, companies, researchers and organizations linked to the entire value chain of the pig sector.

The awards are divided into four categories according to the number of breeding sows at each farm and assess four indicators: numerical productivity, farrowing rate, longevity and lactation management. Nominations are established by analyzing the technical and production data collected in BDporc, a system that makes it possible to compare farms of similar sizes.

A TERUEL FARM WINS THE DIAMOND PORC D’OR

The gala also presented three Special Awards recognizing the overall performance of the farms, beyond the technical and production indicators. The Diamond Porc d’Or, the competition’s highest honor, went to Granja Pellicer, of Vall Companys Grup, located in Valderrobres (Teruel). The jury assessed its reproductive results, sow longevity, the management of sows and piglets, and the measures implemented to reduce mortality during lactation and post-weaning.

The MAPA Porc d’Or Award for Sustainability recognized Granja Bendoiro, of Nudesa, in Bendoiro-Lalín (Pontevedra), for its work in sustainability, biosecurity and animal welfare. The jury paid particular attention to the development of a digital twin to monitor the animals and to the farm’s integration into its surroundings.

Ceva Animal Health’s Porc d’Or One Health Award went to Agrorozas, in Poio (Pontevedra). In presenting the award, the jury considered cooperation between the veterinarian and the farmer, biosecurity and prevention measures, the farm’s health status, reduced antibiotic use and staff training.

In addition, IRTA presented a special award to José Luis Agüero Monedero, deputy director general of Livestock and Hunting Production at MAPA, in recognition of his continued support for the BDporc project and the Porc d’Or Awards.
