The future facility will have the capacity to process around 150,000 tonnes of waste a year using advanced technologies. These materials will be used to produce methanol, hydrogen and other fuels or raw materials, advancing toward a circular economy model that makes greater use of the waste generated in the city. The plant will join the recovery facilities and lines already operating at Ctruz.
A MINIMUM INVESTMENT OF 162 MILLION EUROS
The project will be awarded for a period of 30 years and includes a minimum investment of 162 million euros. The financial model will be supported both by the sale of the products obtained and by cost savings for the city council: expenses associated with waste disposal are expected to fall by at least 4.5 million euros a year. Over the three decades of operation, the estimated value of the project is close to 2.1 billion euros.
In addition, Zaragoza City Council will require the plant to operate under the Net Zero Emissions principle and to achieve at least a 70% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared with the current scenario. With this new infrastructure, Zaragoza aims to strengthen its commitment to waste recovery and establish itself as a European benchmark in sustainable management, as part of the objectives of the mission of 100 Climate-Neutral Cities.
