Mequinenza is located in the province of Zaragoza, approximately an hour and a half from the Aragonese capital. More specifically, the municipality belongs to the Bajo Cinca comarca and has more than 2,000 inhabitants. The return of the paella contest after two decades is part of its patron saint festivities, which will take place from September 16 to 20.
THE CONTEST RETURNS AFTER 20 YEARS
Alongside concerts, including one by Fangoria, and numerous activities, Mequinenza has made a decision that will define this year’s patron saint festivities: bringing back its popular paella contest. The tradition is returning to the municipality after two decades without being held.
It will take place on September 12, although registration remains open until Friday, September 4. Registration will be held at Mequinenza Town Hall, and the event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The tradition is returning to bring Mequinenza residents together around the stoves and revive an event that was part of the “La Santa” festivities for years. Two decades later, paellas will once again take center stage in the municipality, where participants will compete to prove who makes the best one.
