The existing court, measuring around 490 square meters, is in a significant state of disrepair, both in its surface and perimeter fencing, mainly because of the roots of nearby trees. The proposed solution is to reduce the sports area and convert it into a basketball court, which will help minimize problems caused by the growth of the trees.
In addition, the project, which has a budget of 240,078 euros and an expected completion period of five months, includes demolishing a municipal building located a few meters away, south of the Nature Classroom, to create a second sports area. A futsal or handball court will be built in this space, making use of the existing open area beyond the path connecting José Bueno Gimeno Street with Paseo de Colón and the Imperial Canal of Aragon.
SEPARATE SPORTS COURTS IN DELICIAS PARK
Likewise, Zaragoza City Council is also planning work on the sports courts in Delicias Park, where the current soccer field will be divided into two separate areas: a smaller soccer field and a basketball court. The playing dimensions will be adapted to the available space, although they will not necessarily meet official regulations.
The two courts will be separated by a concrete wall topped with a school-style steel fence, reaching a total enclosure height of 3.15 meters. The project aims to diversify the sporting uses of this green space and offer alternatives for practicing different disciplines. The work has a total budget of 73,310.60 euros, including VAT, and an estimated completion period of two months.
