"The government team’s political commitment is to thoroughly review the granting of these licenses and, always with legal rigor, assess whether or not they can be revoked," Serrano said. The councilor also assured that City Hall "understands and shares with residents the reality that the development plots are not the most suitable place for these facilities."
SERRANO: “WE WILL WORK HAND IN HAND”
Serrano said the City Council would continue working with residents and keeping them informed about the project. "We will work hand in hand, we will keep talking," and "very soon, probably over the course of next week, we may have a solution or proposal to put to Valdespartera residents," he said. The meeting took place after around 300 residents gathered on Tuesday to protest the service stations, one of which is located near homes, a children’s playground and school routes.
The residents’ mobilization also follows a court’s decision to admit an appeal filed against the two gas stations. The Los Montes de Valdespartera Residents’ Association is calling for the project to be halted and the license withdrawn, arguing that various breaches have occurred during the construction work. Work on the Sabina roundabout was provisionally halted by a court on July 9, according to residents, who also say they detected deficiencies in signage and safety measures during work on Manhattan Street.
