The move from Casa de los Morlanes is part of the transformation of more than 26,500 square meters at the former factory and the city’s goal of bringing together in Distrito 7 various activities related to cinema and the audiovisual sector. Alongside the studios and future business and training spaces, the Film Archive will be one of the elements completing this new ecosystem.
The move is expected to take place at the end of 2026, with activities able to begin just a few weeks later. The first screening is planned for January, although the definitive allocation of some spaces that have so far hosted film-related activities in the city has yet to be determined.
JANUARY, THE MONTH CHOSEN TO RAISE THE CURTAIN
Zaragoza Mayor Natalia Chueca has set January 2027 as the date for the new Film Archive to begin operating in Distrito 7. The opening will allow the cultural venue to join from the outset a project designed to attract productions, professionals and companies from the audiovisual sector.
One question still to be resolved is the future of the screening room at Casa de los Morlanes. Zaragoza City Council has not yet decided how it will be used, meaning that the Film Archive’s move does not currently determine the future of that space.
