Serrano explained that the city council is obliged to grant the license if the private project demonstrates that it meets all urban planning and environmental requirements established by law. "This is not a political decision or a preference of the governing team, but compliance with a legal procedure," he said. At the same time, the councillor acknowledged that compliance with the law does not eliminate residents’ concerns and announced that the council plans to meet soon with representatives of residents and the educational community to hear their demands and explain the project to them "in a close, honest and transparent manner."
The city council also intends to act as an intermediary between the neighborhood and the developer. According to Serrano, the aim is to convey the families’ concerns to the company and appeal to its "community responsibility" in an effort to find common ground and consider "measures or alternatives" that could reassure Valdespartera residents before the project moves forward.
