Vox's candidate selection comes at a time when the party has gained ground in the latest Zaragoza Municipal Barometer. The poll for the second half of 2026, based on 2,025 telephone surveys conducted between June 17 and July 17, puts Vox at 10.0% in direct voting intention, compared with 8.1% in the 2023 vote recall. Among Zaragoza residents aged 18 to 29, the figure rises to 14.3%, behind only the PP, which reaches 19.5% in that age group.
Torres believes that, if these figures hold, the PP will need Vox to govern Zaragoza. In any case, this is a political reading of the scenario reflected by the poll: the barometer provides figures for direct voting intention, not an estimate of council seats or possible majorities. In addition, 33% of respondents do not know or prefer not to say which option they would vote for, while another 9.5% say they would abstain.
CHUECA TO RUN AGAIN AS THE LEFT MAKES ITS MOVE
The contrast with the People's Party is clear. Alberto Núñez Feijóo confirmed last July that Natalia Chueca would be the PP's candidate for mayor of Zaragoza in the 2027 municipal elections, meaning the current mayor's electoral future is already settled.
In the PSOE, by contrast, the process is still open. The party has launched its primary elections to choose its candidate, and Lola Ranera has not ruled out leading the list again. In recent days, the Government delegate in Aragon, Fernando Beltrán, has also left the door open to standing and said he was placing himself "at the disposal" of his party for the process.
The formula for the political space to the left of the PSOE also remains unresolved. In Zaragoza en Común, Izquierda Unida, Podemos and Chunta Aragonesista are currently holding talks to consider a joint candidacy for 2027, although they acknowledge that reaching an agreement will not be easy and that CHA may choose to run under its own banner.
