Torres said the initiative is intended as a constructive proposal rather than a criticism of current management. “We want a Local Police force focused on prevention and families’ peace of mind, not on traffic control with a purely punitive purpose,” she said. In this regard, Vox is also proposing an update to the Local Police Internal Regulations, which date back to 1995, to adapt them to the force’s new technological and operational needs.
GREATER POLICE PRESENCE ON FOOT OR BY SCOOTER
The party is particularly advocating a return to a stronger police presence on foot or by scooter, with officers who know local businesses and the specific characteristics of each district. “Citizens are calling for community policing, with officers who walk or use scooters, know the local business owners and understand the circumstances of each district,” Torres said. She believes officers should have more material and technological resources to carry out their work.
Vox’s spokesperson said the proposal aims to bring “the real voice and concerns” of residents before the plenary session. Torres acknowledged that Zaragoza is a safe city, but warned that the increase in criminal offenses reflected in Interior Ministry data deserves consideration. Alongside artificial intelligence, Vox is calling for tools such as Taser guns to be made available to the Local Police and is advocating placing prevention and public safety ahead of a police role focused on traffic fines.
