During the rally, organizers will publish a neighborhood manifesto and explain their next steps, including any legal action they may pursue. The protest is going ahead despite the relief caused by the decision of Zaragoza’s Administrative Court No. 3, which has provisionally suspended the implementation of the Urban Planning Department’s decision authorizing the gas station on Viridiana Street.
THEY WARN OF ITS PROXIMITY TO A SCHOOL ROUTE
Residents have been opposing the facility for some time. It is located on private land just 15 meters from the nearest homes. They also warn of its proximity to the school route used by CPI San Jorge and the potential traffic problems and impacts that the activity could cause, in their view. The association also maintains that the immediate neighbors were not personally informed during the application process, as they argue is required under Aragon’s environmental regulations for certain activities.
The City Council, for its part, maintains that the land is privately owned and that, because the project meets the requirements established by law, the permit is a regulated administrative act that cannot be denied at the authorities’ discretion. While the council must now decide how to proceed in light of the court ruling, the second gas station planned for Manhattan Street is moving forward.
