The same resident has paid particular attention to one of the ducks, which she has named "Lucas" and which, she explains, usually stays out of the water. Her theory is that the presence of people who provide them with food is causing the birds to get used to coming onto land.
Other residents have joined the debate, questioning the use of dog food and recalling that, if the animals are believed to have a feeding problem, the matter should be reported to the relevant authorities.
CRITICISM OF THOSE WHO "IGNORE THE WARNINGS"
The issue has generated numerous comments. One resident said she had also warned a woman who feeds pigeons as well as ducks. "That is prohibited too," she pointed out. Others agreed that the warnings are not always heeded and said they have had to reprimand people for this practice on occasion.
The conversation also turned to another issue of particular concern to local residents, which they directly link to leaving or abandoning food in this area of Zaragoza: the possible presence of rats around the canal. Some claim to have seen large rodents and insist that this is not a new situation.
Beyond the debate over what the ducks eat, residents are calling for people to avoid feeding the animals on their own initiative and for any issue related to their condition or the canal's wildlife to be reported to municipal services or the relevant authorities.
