The initiative was launched by the FEMP, whose president, María José García-Pelayo, announced on August 25 that rallies would be held outside Spanish town halls to convey the support of local governments for Ceuta amid the situation the autonomous city has faced since late July. The federation has proposed that the event be held simultaneously at 8 p.m. in the municipalities supporting the initiative.
MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS AND FOUNTAINS TO BE LIT UP
Zaragoza City Council has joined the initiative and invited citizens to take part. Mayor Natalia Chueca described the event as "a show of solidarity with the people of Ceuta." In addition, the city government will light municipal buildings and fountains in the colors of the Spanish flag at night and has put up a banner on its balcony.
The rally will be attended by the PP and Vox, while the PSOE and Zaragoza en Común will not attend. The Socialists will take part in putting up the banner, but not in the rally, as they believe it could lead to the situation being used for partisan purposes.
The president of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, is also expected to attend. Huesca, Teruel and numerous Aragonese municipalities will join the events promoted by the FEMP this Wednesday.
