"I think there have indeed been some issues involving affected services that have led to delays," Chueca said when asked about the progress of the works. The mayor did not specify how much the schedule may have been pushed back or whether these issues will have any impact on the budget.
To determine the precise state of the works after the summer, Chueca said a new meeting of the board of directors of the company managing the project will have to be held. "We need a meeting, a board meeting, which I imagine will take place soon, to update ourselves on whether there have been any problems this summer," she explained. The review will make it possible to assess how the works have progressed in recent months and whether new difficulties have emerged.
ALSO AWAITING FIFA
Meanwhile, another issue linked to the stadium remains pending: the definition of the tertiary uses, which Zaragoza City Council is holding off on until FIFA confirms whether it will be able to use those spaces during the World Cup or before the tournament.
A visit by FIFA representatives to the Aragonese capital this September has also yet to be confirmed. In fact, Chueca currently has no indication that it will take place. The city council will therefore have to continue moving ahead with the works while it seeks to resolve the outstanding questions surrounding the final stretch of construction.
