The next one will be set up at CEIP Cesáreo Alierta, on Asín y Palacios, next to the basketball court. The initiative is part of the pilot project being carried out around La Romareda until October 30, which also includes pedestrianizing part of Pedro III el Grande and changes to traffic and parking on several streets.
The space will be reserved for brief stops to drop off or pick up students, meaning families will not have to park next to the school. This and other measures will be assessed over the coming weeks to determine whether this solution is sufficient to accommodate traffic entering and leaving the school.
A MEASURE ALREADY IN PLACE IN OTHER AREAS OF ZARAGOZA
Kiss and Go zones are not new in the city. They had already been included earlier this year in a municipal plan to make school surroundings safer, alongside other measures such as raised pedestrian crossings, wider sidewalks, curb extensions at intersections and enhanced signage.
Zaragoza City Council's plan was based on studies carried out at ten educational centers and proposed gradually extending these measures to schools and secondary schools in different neighborhoods and rural areas of Zaragoza.
The strategy aims to reduce risks during periods when vehicles and pedestrians are most concentrated. On some streets near schools, it also provides for reducing the speed limit to 20 kilometers per hour and improving the accessibility of school routes.
