The new station will be responsible for both security at the Municipal Shelter and monitoring the streets and public spaces in the surrounding area. Officers from the Centro District will also operate from the premises, as part of a neighborhood policing model designed to bring officers closer to residents and increase their presence in local communities.
Chueca stressed that the city will continue expanding this neighborhood policing model. Following Pignatelli and the opening of Bruil, Delicias will be the next neighborhood to have facilities of this kind. “Our residents are asking us for greater security, and my government will be there,” she said.
DELICIAS WILL HAVE A NEW POLICE STATION NEXT YEAR
Bruil thus becomes the second location of this kind launched by the municipal government, after the Pignatelli neighborhood station, which began operating a year ago. The City Council plans to continue expanding this model and has already identified Delicias as the next neighborhood to receive similar facilities, in response to residents’ requests for increased surveillance and a greater police presence.
The new facility is integrated into the renovated Municipal Shelter, a project that involved an investment of more than five million euros. The renovation has improved the facilities for homeless people and expanded the services provided at the site, which now also includes this permanent Local Police station to strengthen security in the building and throughout the area.
The opening is part of the municipal strategy to strengthen security, which includes hiring new officers, reorganizing services to increase police presence on the streets, integrating with 112 Aragón and expanding security cameras. Zaragoza’s government says the aim is to ensure residents can use public spaces and go about their daily activities with greater peace of mind, supported by a Local Police force that is closer to them and more present in the day-to-day life of the city’s neighborhoods.
