The generational handover came just a couple of years ago, when the owners’ children took over these historic businesses. For several days now, regular visitors to the area have encountered an unusual sight: La Cucaracha remains closed, and its interior is undergoing extensive renovations.
LA CUCARACHA IS EMPTIED OUT AHEAD OF PILAR
Easily recognizable by its distinctive green façade and small interior lit by colorful lights, La Cucaracha is part of many Zaragoza residents’ memories. Several generations have passed through its bar, and many still remember the shots shared within its walls.

Now, its interior is empty, and a renovation notice is displayed on one of its walls. Faced with this sight, many Zaragoza residents who have enjoyed nights at the venue are asking themselves the same question: What will La Cucaracha look like after the renovation? For now, it is still unknown whether its popular “machacaos” will once again be served at the venue’s iconic bar during the Pilar festivities.
