The most striking case is Cañizar del Olivar, in Teruel. Of its 112 residents, 15 are under 10, representing 13.39% of the total population. It is the highest percentage among Aragon’s 731 municipalities, according to 2025 population data published by the INE.
CAÑIZAR DEL OLIVAR: 15 CHILDREN AMONG 112 RESIDENTS
The figure is even more striking given the municipality’s size. Cañizar del Olivar is home to seven children under five and eight aged between five and nine, meaning that nearly one in seven residents has not yet turned 10.
Close behind are two municipalities in Zaragoza province with a completely different situation in terms of population size. María de Huerva has 848 children under 10 among 6,592 residents, or 12.86%, while Cuarte de Huerva has 1,973 children among 15,380 residents, or 12.83%.
Fourth place goes to Monflorite-Lascasas, in Huesca, where 59 of the 474 residents are under 10, representing 12.45%. It is followed by Gúdar, in Teruel, with nine children among its 73 residents, or 12.33%.
ALBERO ALTO, MONFORTE DE MOYUELA AND SARRIÓN ALSO STAND OUT
The list continues with Albero Alto, in Huesca, where 15 of its 123 residents are under 10, representing 12.20%. In Monforte de Moyuela, Teruel, there are 10 children among 83 residents, bringing the percentage to 12.05%.
Aguilar del Alfambra also stands out, with 10 children among 84 residents, or 11.90%. More significant in terms of population is the case of Sarrión, where 147 of the 1,260 residents are under 10, representing 11.67% of the population.
Huesca is also home to Alerre, with 26 children under 10 among 224 residents, or 11.61%. In Zaragoza province, Épila stands out, where 529 of its 4,696 residents have not yet turned 10, representing 11.26%.
MORE THAN 106,000 CHILDREN UNDER 10 LIVE IN ARAGON
Across Aragon, there are 106,144 children under 10 among a total population of 1,364,621. They account for approximately 7.78% of all Aragonese residents.
Zaragoza province has by far the largest number, with 77,725 children under 10 among 998,443 residents, also representing 7.78%. Huesca has 18,044 children among a population of 230,087, or 7.84%.
Teruel has 10,375 children under 10 among its 136,091 residents, representing 7.62%. In percentage terms, Huesca is slightly ahead of Zaragoza and Teruel, although Zaragoza province is home to more than seven out of every 10 children under 10 living in Aragon.
Outside the three provincial capitals, Cuarte de Huerva stands out in terms of numbers, with 1,973 children under 10, a figure far higher than those of the small municipalities topping the ranking by percentage. María de Huerva, with 848, is also among the towns where the presence of children is most visible.
