During his speech, parliamentary group spokesman Tomás Guitarte expressed concern about the direction FITE has taken in recent years. He denounced the fact that, instead of being used to “generate economic activity and reverse a situation of inequality,” it has become normalized for the fund to be used “as just another item in the Aragon Government's budget.”
The Teruel Existe leader cited Teruel's new hospital, which has received FITE funding, as an example. He criticized this for replacing funding from the Health Department, pointing out that this does not happen with “the healthcare infrastructure in Aragon's other provinces.”
“Every euro used to make up for budget shortfalls is a euro that is no longer invested in the province's future,” Guitarte said. He warned that ordinary spending already accounts for more than half of the fund, while investment in key projects such as the airport and MotorLand has declined.
