The damage has forced organizers to modify Saturday’s scheduled program at short notice. Activities aimed at children have been suspended, while events for older age categories will go ahead, adapted to the areas that were not damaged. The venue was scheduled to host the "Parkour Street-Competition," featuring traceurs from different parts of Spain.
A SPACE THAT HAS BEEN OPERATING FOR ALMOST FIVE YEARS
Actur’s Parkour Park was inaugurated on September 7, 2021, following a campaign by neighborhood residents and with the collaboration of the Parkour Zaragoza Movement Association. The project involved a municipal investment of 124,929.02 euros. The rubber surfacing is designed to cushion falls during jumps and acrobatic runs, meaning the damage directly affects the safety of one of the facility’s most-used areas.
The vandalism occurred just 48 hours after Zaragoza City Council’s plenary session approved the new Municipal Civic and Citizen Coexistence Ordinance last Thursday, September 3. The regulation provides for fines of up to 3,000 euros for certain acts of vandalism against municipal infrastructure.
Freerunspot and Zaragoza Movement have called for these public spaces to be looked after. They are used by a broad community of athletes, many of them young people, to train, compete and socialize.
