Environment and Mobility Councillor Tatiana Gaudes said the aim is to add these 600 units to improve bicycle availability during peak-demand hours. This will increase the fleet to 3,100 bicycles while retaining the current stations across the city. The expansion was approved after the service exceeded usage forecasts and became an established alternative for travel around Zaragoza.
MORE BIKES AS THE SERVICE GROWS
Bizi ended 2025 with more than 11.3 million journeys, over 62,900 annual subscriptions and nearly 20,000 monthly subscriptions. The average exceeds 20,900 daily trips, and each bicycle is used more than ten times a day, an intensity that explains the need to expand the fleet while also strengthening maintenance.
The expansion will provide more bicycles at the locations and times of greatest demand without increasing the number of stations. The City Council had already announced its intention to bring this expansion forward to 2027; it was initially planned for subsequent years, precisely because of the service's "resounding success" and because actual usage figures had exceeded forecasts.
Gaudes also highlighted that Bizi is in a phase of constant growth and development, with measures such as improved bicycle redistribution, an additional ten minutes to return bikes when no spaces are available, and increased workshop capacity. The arrival of the 600 new units will be the next major step for a service that already accounts for 38% of the micromobility recorded in Zaragoza.
