The choice of Zaragoza will highlight the talent of dining room professionals and place the city in the international hospitality spotlight. The Spanish Championship will be the first major event, as the winner will earn the right to represent the country at the World Maître Championship. The Association of Maîtres and Dining Room Professionals of Aragon (Sapha) has already held its regional competition, which produced Aragon’s representative for the 2027 national event.

ZARAGOZA ALREADY HAS ITS ARAGONESE REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE SPANISH CHAMPIONSHIP

Aragon has already chosen its candidate for the 2027 Spanish Maître Championship. The qualification was decided at the 17th Aragon Maître/Head Waiter Contest, held as part of the 10th edition of the Sapha Maîtres competition.

Participants had to demonstrate their skills in various technical tests related to dining room service, including ham carving, espresso extraction, table setting, a technical test, deboning, carving and fruit peeling. The jury selected Rubén Héctor Muñoz Alcaine as the winner, securing his direct qualification for the Spanish Championship, where he will compete for a place in the World Championship.

The Aragonese competition was supported by the Government of Aragon, Turismo de Aragón, the Aragon Bartenders Club and Sapha. The association congratulated all the participants on their performance and especially Rubén Héctor Muñoz Alcaine on a victory that will allow him to represent Aragon at the national event.

THE TRIUMPH OF A MAN FROM HUESCA AT THE TOKYO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

The announcement that Zaragoza will be the next world venue comes after the success of Francisco Martínez Becerra, a native of Sabiñánigo (Huesca), who was crowned world champion in the Table Service category at the Maîtres d’Hôtel World Championship held this October in Tokyo. The professional from Huesca, a member of the Aragonese association, has received congratulations from Horeca Zaragoza and Maîtres de Aragón for his international victory.

Martínez Becerra has a record of professional achievements. In 2022, he was crowned Aragon Maître champion and Spanish Flambéing champion, and also received the Young Maître distinction at the Pajarita Awards presented by the Association of Maîtres of Aragon. According to Maîtres de Aragón, he was also named Spain’s Best Maître in 2023.

The next championships in Zaragoza will also coincide with the retirement of Carlos Orgaz, who led the Aragonese association for 27 years. Maîtres de Aragón has described this moment as "the end of a momentous chapter" for the organization, which is approaching the upcoming competitions with the aim of raising the profile of dining room professionals.
