The event, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. and run until 8:00 p.m., will bring the second edition of a championship to a close. The tournament has attracted more than 20,000 players across its various qualifying rounds and will move venues for its final stage compared with last year, replacing the Príncipe Felipe Pavilion with the auditorium in the Aragonese capital. “A sport as fun and as much ours as guiñote,” said Zaragoza City Council Sports Councillor Félix Brocate, who also highlighted the social and popular dimension of a game so deeply rooted in Aragón.
A total of 272 venues across Aragón and other provinces, including Soria, Tarragona, Castellón, Madrid and Burgos, have determined who will have the chance to compete for the title of the season’s best guiñote players. “We have the feeling that we are continuing to grow and that we have consolidated the project more quickly than perhaps we had expected,” said Samuel Melero, a representative of the event’s promoter.

In total, 287 pairs—of which only the champion and runner-up from the first edition received a direct pass—will compete in an event offering €20,000 in prize money. The winning pair will receive €12,000, the runners-up €5,000, the third-placed pair €1,500 and the fourth-placed pair €900, while pairs finishing between fifth and eighth place will each receive €150.
MUCH MORE THAN GUIÑOTE
The event also aims to go far beyond the cards and become a major community celebration centered on one of the games most deeply rooted in Aragón and some neighboring provinces. Organizers expect more than 2,000 people, including participants and companions, to attend an event presented on Monday at Zaragoza City Hall.
Alongside the competition, the program will feature various leisure activities that will also showcase Aragonese tradition: a brass band, migas for lunch and even a community festival featuring activities linked to the championship. Admission will be free for anyone wishing to attend a day that will conclude with a raffle of gifts provided by sponsors and seek to celebrate guiñote’s social and popular character.
