Municipal sources say the turf has a minimum useful life of twelve years, while the La Almozara pitch was replaced in 2017, nine years ago. In addition, in both 2008 and 2017, the checkered club had already forced the turf to be replaced even though its useful life had not yet expired.
Zaragoza City Council also stated that several meetings were held with Ebro during the summer to address the replacement of the showers and changing rooms, reforms that were completed in three weeks. However, the decision to halt the match for two minutes as a pressure measure came as a complete surprise to city officials.
Regarding the lighting problem, another issue Ebro says needs to be addressed, municipal sources state that all clubs managing a municipal field are replacing their lights with LED systems, with the exception of the checkered side because the City Council itself provides it with a subsidy to carry out the work.
THE CITY COUNCIL'S POSITION
On September 9, the renovation of several municipal fields was approved, including Ebro's seven-a-side football pitch. However, municipal sources say the 11-a-side pitch is not included in the plan because its useful life has not expired.
The City Council also has a report from the company responsible for maintaining the turf stating that the field is in perfect condition for sporting activities.
One of the points raised in Ebro's statement was that it would halt sporting activity if its request was ignored, but the City Council's position on not replacing the turf is clear.
