After being promoted from Segunda Federación, the referee, who belongs to the Catalan Referees' Committee, will make his Primera RFEF debut on the pitch at Ibercaja Estadio, which will host the second league matchday. Masip Vidal, who has spent the past four seasons in Segunda RFEF, has officiated a total of 63 matches in the fourth tier of Spanish football. His most recent assignment was the second leg of the Primera RFEF promotion playoff, in which Águilas eliminated Utebo.
Although he will also officiate Real Zaragoza for the first time, having never previously crossed paths with the club, the Catalan referee has overseen matches involving Deportivo Aragón during his time in Segunda RFEF. Specifically, there were four matches, which ended with two wins for the reserve side, one draw and one defeat.
Before the new tiers of Spanish football were introduced, Masip Vidal, who will be accompanied at Ibercaja Estadio by assistant referees Elias Agdaoui and Max Van Esso and fourth official Sergio Martínez, officiated ten matches in the former Segunda División B during the 2020-2021 season.
CHARITY INITIATIVE
As a curiosity, the referee visiting the Zaragoza stadium this Saturday founded the 'Silbato Solidario' initiative in 2019. "I am a referee and, after more than five seasons officiating, I had accumulated a lot of sportswear that I no longer used. For this reason, I decided to create 'Silbato Solidario', a nationwide campaign to collect refereeing clothing and later send it to Senegal. This initiative aims not only to collect clothing, but also to train young people in Senegal in the laws of the game, with the goal of turning sport into a tool for conveying values," the referee says on his own LinkedIn profile.
