The proposal, launched by the City Council and already undergoing administrative procedures, recognizes an exceptional sporting career that has taken Huesca's name to the highest continental and world events in her discipline. The medal will be presented at a ceremony to be held during the coming Christmas season, on a date yet to be determined.
"Inés Bergua is now one of the best gymnasts in the world and carries Huesca's name to the most important stages in her sport. This Gold Medal is the recognition of the entire city for her effort, discipline and the pride we feel in having her as a role model," Huesca Mayor Lorena Orduna said.
HER OUTSTANDING RECORD AND HONORS
Her record includes nine medals at World Championships (one gold, two silver and six bronze) and 11 at European Championships (seven gold, two silver and two bronze). Among her most recent achievements is the historic gold-medal hat-trick won by the Spanish team at the 2025 European Championships in Tallinn, repeated in Varna in 2026, as well as the world all-around title claimed in Frankfurt in 2026, which also secured Spain's qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. In 2024, she was also captain of the Spanish team at the Paris Olympic Games.
Bergua combines her top-level sporting career with a degree in Law at Comillas Pontifical University (ICADE), a path that has also earned her the 2022 Dual Career Award and an Honorary Mention in 2023, both from the Spanish Sports Council, as well as recognition as Aragón's Best Female Athlete in 2022 from the Government of Aragón.
She has received other awards, including the Princess of Girona Award for Young Athletes' Values 2025, presented by the Princess of Girona Foundation. The Government of Aragón has also announced that she will receive the 2026 Aragón Medal for Sporting Merit.
