As expected after missing the debut in Tarragona because of the concussion he suffered the previous week against Bilbao Athletic, the centre-back from Castellón, who is expected to become the undisputed leader of Zaragoza's defense and was wearing head protection, started the match in what were his first minutes in a Zaragoza shirt.
From the outset, the defender led a Zaragoza back line that had plenty of work to do in a first half in which Antequera overcame Real Zaragoza's initial approach. THE GOAL ASSIST
Beyond his defensive duties, González was also key in attack, specifically in the move that ultimately swung the match in Real Zaragoza's favor. Taking advantage of a deep cross from Jardí to the far post, the centre-back put the ball back into Antequera's six-yard box, allowing Espiau to simply tap it into the net.
Although the assist was not officially recorded because the ball had previously hit the post, it was a key pass in the final stages of the match that enabled Real Zaragoza to win a dramatic game and claim its first three points as it looks to climb the standings. To do so, Ibai Gómez's side will visit Juventud Torremolinos this Sunday in another match in which Diego González is expected to once again lead Zaragoza's defense.
