Mar Vaquero believes that staging these events demonstrates Teruel’s ability to host top-level competitions and generate economic and tourism activity. In this regard, she has argued that the province is ready to continue hosting major sporting events.
The regional administration particularly highlighted Teruel’s ability to meet the accommodation and hospitality needs arising from an event of this scale after the original date was changed because of wildfires. "September has proven to be a good date," officials said, while reiterating their willingness to cooperate on future editions.
HIGH OCCUPANCY
Environment and Tourism Minister Luis Biendicho highlighted the competition’s economic impact. The staging of the Baja helped occupancy reach around 90% both in the city of Teruel and in the Jiloca district, with a direct impact on hospitality establishments and the services sector as a whole.
The scale of the Baja Aragón also extended beyond the sporting sphere. The competition was broadcast internationally in more than 124 countries, with a potential audience estimated at around 1 billion viewers. The aim, officials explained, is for those who came to Teruel during the event to "return" and for those who discovered the region through the broadcast to be encouraged to visit. In this regard, the province’s culinary and cultural offerings were highlighted, including products such as truffles and Teruel ham, as well as its historic heritage.
