The Aragonese mountaineer Rubén Sanmartín, together with Catalans Marc Torrales and Bru Bossom, will receive the Piolet d'Or, mountaineering's highest honor, for opening L'essència del Compromís on the east face of Yerupajá (6,634 meters) in Peru's Huayhuash range in the Andes.
This will be the first Piolet received by Spain in history, after Jordi Corominas, in 2024, and Silvia Vidal, in 2021, had previously received secondary awards.

The organization has decided to give this award to the Spanish expedition, which achieved a feat not accomplished since 2014 by reaching the summit of the mountain range. In addition, the Spaniards completed this achievement in just five days and made the first full traverse of the mountain from the east side.

The president of the Government of Aragón, Jorge Azcón, congratulated the group, especially Rubén Sanmartín, in a message on social media. "A milestone for Spanish mountaineering with an Aragonese mountaineer at the center of it. Congratulations, Rubén!" Azcón said.
