The Less Visible Side of Postpartum: Zaragoza Focuses on Mothers’ Mental Health

Anxiety, sadness, exhaustion and feeling overwhelmed can also be part of the postpartum period, although many women still find it difficult to talk about them. Against this backdrop, Zaragoza will address the issue on October 28 at an event focused on improving psychological care during this stage.
The Less Visible Side of Postpartum: Zaragoza Focuses on Mothers’ Mental Health

The Aragon Association for Support in the Treatment of Anxiety and Depression (AFDA) will hold the 2nd Conference on Promoting Psychological Health During Pregnancy and the Postpartum Period, bringing together healthcare and social care professionals, mothers, families and the public to reflect on care during the puerperium. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 28, from 5:30 p.m. at the Joaquín Roncal CAI Center in Zaragoza.

The event will include a roundtable with professionals involved in perinatal care, as well as several participatory working sessions. They will discuss what comprehensive postpartum care should look like, which measures should be prioritized and what good practices could be implemented with the resources currently available.

AFDA points out that the postpartum period involves significant physical, emotional, psychological and social changes. It also warns that the idealization of motherhood, fear of judgment and feelings of guilt can make it difficult for some women to express their distress or seek help.

The event will also feature a recital by Iguazel Elhombre based on texts from Masa madre "Diario de mi maternidad".
