Villarreal B has emerged as Real Zaragoza’s biggest threat for obvious reasons. First, it is the leader of Group II of the third tier of Spanish football, now known as Primera RFEF. It is level on points with the Blanquillos, with both teams locked in a battle at the top of the standings on 20 points.
As a result, the only factor separating the teams in the current standings is goal difference, which favors the Yellow Submarine in this case. This brings us to the second threat: Villarreal B has scored 21 goals so far this season. It arrives at Ibercaja Estadio to face Real Zaragoza averaging 2.3 goals per game.
In short, Villarreal B leads the group after nine rounds and is also the division’s top-scoring team. Its points average is 2.2 per game. That is a strong record, but no better than Real Zaragoza’s as the team looks to take top spot in the standings.
DEFENSE IS NOT ITS STRENGTH
Where Real Zaragoza’s upcoming opponent does not stand out — at least not enough to lead the standings — is in defense. With 10 goals conceded, it has allowed the same number as the Blanquillos, who have not been particularly impressive in this area either. In fact, several teams have better records.
Specifically, four teams have conceded fewer goals than Real Zaragoza and Villarreal B. Real Murcia has allowed just eight goals, while Real Jaén, Cartagena and Alcorcón have conceded nine. Rayo Majadahonda has also conceded 10 and sits in the relegation zone.
This is Real Zaragoza’s weapon. Its opponent is not noted for defensive solidity, and that is what the Aragón side must exploit to take the lead in the standings.
THE MATCH
Real Zaragoza will play Villarreal B this Saturday at 9:00 p.m. in a battle for temporary top spot. It is time to stand firm in the clash between the leading contenders — at least for now — to secure direct promotion at the end of the season.
