Lucas Terrer, the sole survivor of Real Zaragoza's last game against Villarreal B

Of the 11 players who featured for Real Zaragoza and the 11 others called up for their last game against Villarreal B, only one remains. As the teams meet again on Saturday 31 at 9 p.m. at Ibercaja Estadio, Lucas Terrer is the sole survivor. The 2023/24 season was his debut campaign, although he did not play in that February 24 match.

Looking back, only the memory remains of Real Zaragoza's starting eleven that day at La Cerámica: Edgar Badía; Zedadka, Francés, Lluís López, Lecoeuche; Francho, Marc Aguado; Valera, Maikel Mesa, Mollejo; Azón. The coach was Julio Velázquez.

There is no trace of the substitutes either. The coach brought on Mouriño, Toni Moya, Manu Vallejo, Jaume Grau and Sergi Enrich. Not one of them has any connection with Real Zaragoza.

However, among that day's squad was a young academy player who has become one of Real Zaragoza's leading lights. There was Lucas Terrer, wearing number 41 and aged 18.

The match was soporific. A horror show. With the stadium packed with around 2,400 Real Zaragoza supporters, it ended 0-0, leaving the team deeply embroiled in the relegation battle. "The final 0-0 was a disaster for all those who travelled hundreds of kilometres to support their team and had to return home with such a dull, soporific result," this newspaper reported.

THE SEASON OF HIS DEBUT

Terrer would not have to wait long to make his Real Zaragoza debut. He even played in two consecutive matches for the first team. He featured in the final stages of the game against Amorebieta (0-1 at La Romareda) and started against Valladolid (2-0 in Pucela). That was Julio Velázquez's final match in charge of the side.

Following Víctor Fernández's arrival, the midfielder did not disappear from the team. In fact, he started again during the final stages of the season. Terrer was part of Real Zaragoza's starting eleven against Racing de Ferrol on matchday 40, a 2-2 draw, and played around half an hour on matchday 42. That game was against Albacete (1-1), on June 2, 2024.

INTO THE STARTING LINEUP

After spending the 2024/25 season with the reserve team and making more first-team appearances in 2025/26, a campaign that ended in relegation, Lucas Terrer has secured a place in the starting eleven. For now, Real Zaragoza coach Ibai Gómez has made him an undisputed starter, and he has already played almost 700 minutes for the first team.

He is one of the coach's key players in possession. Only Westerveld, Iranzo and Jardí have spent more time on the pitch. He has become indispensable and will now face Villarreal B once again. He is the only one left from the last match against Villarreal B.
