The Popular Party leader praised the candidates’ preparation and experience, singling out Rocío Dívar, head of the Congress list, whom he described as a “hard-working and intelligent” woman. He also backed Luis María Beamonte, number one on the Senate list, citing his career and commitment to defending Aragón.
AZCÓN: "THE GOAL IS TO WIN"
Azcón set the goal of making the PP the most-voted party and achieving one of its best-ever results in Zaragoza. He also hopes the PSOE will once again record its worst electoral figures. “The goal is to win, but we also aim for the Socialist Party to once again have the worst result in history,” he said.
The Aragonese president accused the Socialists of putting the interests of Pedro Sánchez and the Socialist Party of Catalonia ahead of those of the region. Among his criticisms, he listed several issues he considers examples of the PSOE’s scandals and poor management, including the grandchildren law, reports concerning jewelry linked to José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and the eviction of national police officers who were seeking recognition of their profession as a high-risk occupation.
He also denounced unequal treatment of Aragón in terms of investment and funding. He compared the conditions for developing technology infrastructure in Catalonia with those in the Aragonese region and criticized the fact that “every obstacle” was being placed in the way of projects seeking to set up in Aragón. He also called for depopulation to carry more weight in the distribution of public resources.
Azcón concluded that the PP’s campaign must focus on defending the region’s interests and equality among Spaniards. “In this election, we are deciding the defense of our democratic system, the separation of powers and the defense of the Constitution, but we are also deciding whether to defend Aragón,” he said.
