The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) expects temperatures to remain "high for this time of year". Highs will rise in the Canary Islands, along the Alboran coast, northern Galicia and regions in the far southwest of mainland Spain, while they will fall in the Cantabrian area, the southern half and central Spain.
Aemet specified that "temperatures will exceed 35C across most of inland Spain and locally in the islands, potentially reaching 40C in parts of the southwestern and northeastern depressions".
MINIMUM TEMPERATURES ALSO RISE, BRINGING TROPICAL NIGHTS
Minimum temperatures will also rise "widely", "most notably on the plateaus, with tropical nights across large areas of mainland Spain, except in the north". As a result, temperatures will not fall below 25C in the Canary Islands, along the Mediterranean coast and in valleys on the southern Atlantic slope.
The approach of a DANA from the west will also cause "increased instability across mainland Spain, bringing cloudy skies or periods of mid- and high-level cloud, as well as afternoon storms in the northwestern quadrant, which cannot be ruled out elsewhere in the Cantabrian region and Extremadura". In general, this cloud cover will bring "little precipitation" except in the far northwest, where "strong" storms and showers "with hail" are likely in Galicia, Asturias and northwestern Castilla y Leon. Elsewhere, they may locally produce "very strong" wind gusts.
FOG, HAZE AND WIND IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF SPAIN
Skies will be "slightly cloudy" in the Balearic Islands and cloudy in the Canary Islands, with cloud cover mainly "of the mid- and high-level variety" that could bring an isolated shower or storm in high-altitude areas.
Morning mist and fog are likely in the Strait, Alboran, lower Ebro, Galicia and the Cantabrian region, with light haze in western mainland Spain and the Canary Islands.
As for the wind, trade winds will blow in the Canary Islands with "strong" intervals, while the tramontana will affect Ampurdan and Menorca. "Moderate" easterly winds will blow along the northern mainland coast, the Alboran coast and, with stronger intervals, in the Strait. Winds will be light elsewhere, mainly from the south and east, strengthening in the afternoon in inland areas.
