High pressure will maintain stable conditions, with mostly clear or lightly cloudy skies across much of Spain. The exception will be the Cantabrian area and northern Galicia, where cloudy or overcast skies will prevail, with a low chance of drizzle.
Intervals of low cloud are also expected in other parts of northern mainland Spain, the Strait of Gibraltar and Alboran. In the afternoon, convective clouds will develop in central, southern and eastern regions, mainly in mountainous areas. In the Canary Islands, there will be intervals of low cloud on the northern side of the islands, along with medium and high clouds over the eastern islands.
FOG, MIST AND CALIMA
Morning fog banks are likely in Galicia and the Cantabrian region, while coastal mist may develop around the Strait of Gibraltar and Alboran. Calima will also continue to move into the Canary Islands and, to a lesser extent, southwestern mainland Spain.
Temperatures will remain high for this time of year across most of the country. Maximum temperatures, however, will fall in the lower Ebro valley, Catalonia, Menorca and the Cantabrian region. Notable drops of more than 6 degrees, and even exceptional declines of more than 10 degrees, are expected in the easternmost Cantabrian area. By contrast, temperatures will rise in the Canary Islands, Alboran and the eastern interior of mainland Spain.
Thermometers will exceed 35 degrees across wide areas of the southern half, the northeastern quadrant and the island groups. In the Guadalquivir valley, temperatures could even surpass 40 degrees. Minimum temperatures will fall in the northern half of mainland Spain and will generally change little elsewhere.
TROPICAL NIGHTS AND WIND
Tropical nights will continue across large parts of the southern half and northeastern mainland Spain, with minimum temperatures above 20 degrees. Night-time temperatures will exceed 25 degrees along the Mediterranean coasts and in the Canary Islands.
Moderate trade winds will blow in the Canary Islands, with strong intervals and very strong gusts in exposed areas. On the mainland, light westerly winds will prevail, while northerly winds will dominate in the Cantabrian region and easterly winds around the Strait of Gibraltar and the Mediterranean.
TEMPERATURES IN PROVINCIAL CAPITALS
Temperatures will be particularly high across much of Spain this Monday. Zaragoza will reach 40 degrees, with a minimum of 22, while Huesca will reach 36 degrees, with a low of 23, and Teruel will record up to 38 degrees, after starting at 16. Outside Aragon, Cordoba will post the highest maximum among the provincial capitals, with 41 degrees, followed by Jaen and Seville, at 40. It will also be very hot in Badajoz, Granada and Lleida, where thermometers will reach 39 degrees, while Albacete, Ciudad Real, Murcia and Toledo will reach 38.
