He said so in an audio recording released by the Foreign Ministry, explaining that he had spoken again on Friday with his Mexican counterpart, Foreign Secretary Roberto Velasco, who gave him details of the arrest of the alleged murderer of the young Spanish student.
The Morelos State Prosecutor’s Office reported yesterday the arrest of ‘El Trompas’, suspected of murdering 21-year-old Claudia Tacoronte last Saturday in the municipality of Cuautla. The crime was reportedly committed during a robbery, but prosecutors will charge him with femicide.
Albares said the detainee “has reportedly already confessed to being responsible for the crime” and thanked Velasco “for the speed with which the investigation is progressing.” He also asked him to pursue the case “to the fullest extent” so that “all those involved in this act are held accountable before the law.”
The minister stressed that the Spanish Embassy, the Spanish Consulate, the Mexican authorities and the ministry he leads “are fully at the family’s disposal and are currently doing everything possible to clarify this case and support the family of our compatriot in this situation.”
The 21-year-old woman from the Canary Islands, a student at the University of Granada, was undertaking an academic mobility placement at the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM).
